1. General information:
The southernmost airfield in Finland is located 8 kilometers from downtown Hanko. One local club Hanko air club (Hangon lentokerho, hangonlentokerho.fi) operates from the airfield. Occasionally there can be drone activity by the authorities. Generally Hanko airfield is a quiet airfield and offers a stunning view over the archipelago. Those flying to Hanko should note the nearby restricted area (EFR83), the permanent ly restricted areas (EFR43, EFR45) and the Noise Abatement area south of the airfield (1000 Ft). With winds from south-east there can be some turbulence on final.

EFHN TEMPORARY NOTAM

From April to the beginning of July (see NOTAM) there will be drone activity at the airfield.

In addition to official NOTAM the following measures are to be adhered to.
Approaching aircraft are to report abeam the temporary REPORTING POINTS of PADVA, RILAX an LAPPVIK (picture 1).

for ex. “Hanko traffic OH(U) – XXX inbound abeam RILAX, estimate Hanko in X minutes”
Position report is not required of departing aircraft.
NOTE! During DRONE operations (T/O and landing) the airfield cannot be used for approx. 20-25min.
For departures and landings the drone uses a fixed route visible at temporary EFHN VAC chart (picture 2)

Drone operator will announce T/O, landing and landing circuit in English.

Airfield cannot be used for Take-offs or landings for approx. 20-25 min between these calls.

Take-off
“HANKO TRAFIC, NORDUN 46 PREPAIRING FOR TAKE-OFF” and
“HANKO TRAFIC, NORDUN 46 LEAVING AIRSPACE VIA BREIDABLICK 1300FT”.

Landing
“HANKO TRAFIC, NORDUN 46 AT BREIDABLICK 1300FT INBOUND FOR LANDING” and “NORDUN 46 RWY VACATED”.
When approaching airfield, drone will report “HANKO TRAFIC, NORDUN 46, APPROACHING FROM EAST, ESTIMATE 10 MIN TO HANKO AIRFIELD”
Drone operators speak only English and changes to drone flight plan (T/O or approach/landing) can be made if asked for in English.

Drone callsign is “NORDUN 46”.

2. The Airport:
RWY 03 is bumpy between taxiway and RWY03 threshold. No landing before threshold on RWY03. Rest of the runway is in fairly good shape, apart from some dents and protrusions. Taxiways alongside the runway are closed permanently..

4. Sight seeing and services
The is a cafeteria at the local golf club which is situated close to the airfield. In the summertime Hanko offers numerous nice restaurants with a sea view .
