2. General information:

Finland’s newest airfield, known as Helsinki-East Aerodrome, serves professional general aviation and provides a base for the industry as well as private aircraft owners. As part of the airfield’s operations, it also functions as a product development and testing center for the aviation of the future. The airfield is also set to become Helsinki’s second airport for passenger traffic.

The airfield area has been zoned for the future “Helsinki-East” logistics and industrial area. The zoning plan includes a provision for a crosswind runway. A variety of aviation-related activities will emerge in the area, supporting the airfield.

Visitors are warmly welcome, and there are no landing fees, pilot-in-command fees, or PNR (Prior Notice Required) obligations for visiting aircraft. Regular use of the airfield — for example, for training, touch-and-go practice, or as a home base for an aircraft — must be agreed upon with the airport operator.

LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance) instrument approach procedures have been published for the airfield in the AIP.

The airfield now also features Donkey Republic city bikes, which can be used to reach Aeronautica or, for instance, Siltakylä.

The runway, taxiways and apron are paved and in excellent condition. The airport is kept plowed and in working condition during the winter, however, after snowfalls, it is necessary to check the condition of the runway in advance. Airport construction works on runway extensions and peripheral areas continue from time to time. Special caution must be observed in flight operations.
